A cute vintage Akro Agate slag glass vase in white and orange in a fanned oval shape with two small handles on either side. It was called their Lily Vase and it features a lily on each of the sides. The flower looks like a lily with long curved leaves on the sides. The center of the flower is quite prominent and sticks out farther than the petals and leaves. The base is an oval as is the top opening. This little vase is circa 1940s.
What is Slag Glass?
The pressed glass pieces know as "slag glass" were frist made in the 1890s, using the glass-like by-product of iron known as slag. These items were brown in color with swirls of white or cream within the glass. Other types of metal ores produce different colors of slag when they are refined. This piece is typical of the first types of slag glass produced. This vase is made by the Akro Agate Company. They were best known for making marbles. They began marble production late in 1914, and were made in many colors after that.
