A short covered Ruby Flash Diamond Point lidded dish with a diamond cut design on the bowl portion and decorative lid that comes to a tear dropped shaped point. The knob is covered with tiny diamond shapes in the glass. The lidded jar is clear and has a band of red flash around the center of the glass. The glass on either side of the band has a diamond shaped cut on it. The square base has red flash on it as well.
What is flashed glass?
Flashed glass (or flash on glass) is a process that was used in the art glass trade as a cheaper method of making colored glass. This method involves putting a thin coating of color on a base of clear glass. When finished, a flashed glass piece was practically indistinguishable from solid color glass. Red flash was a commonly used color - like this handsome little red and clear glass round diamond point lidded jar.
The round and quite low striking compote or lidded jar measures 5 3/4" high with the lid on. It is 3 14" high without the lid. The top opening has a 4 1/4" diameter. The sides of the square base are 2 1/4" long.
While this is a smaller sized candy dish or lidded jar, it is rather hefty weighing in at over 1 1/2 lbs. before packaging for shipment.
In nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There is wear to the red flash especially on the base and some on the red band commensurate with vintage age. This item is circa mid century. See photos for detail. Item's price reflects this condition.
Would make an nice display jar, large sugar bowl or a display jar for your retro home decor.
