Two vintage mottled pink ceramic swan vases made by the world-acclaimed designer Royal Hickman made for the Haeger Pottery company. The color is pink but there is a bit of blue mixed in the pink that can be seen upon closer inspection, giving these rare pair a mottled finish.
NOTE: In 1871 David H. Haeger founded the Haeger Pottery Company which was originally known as the Dundee Brickyard. The company became one of America’s oldest and largest pottery producers. In 1938, Royal Hickman joined the company and began to create introduce a line of artware, called Royal Haeger. Hickman’s work was different than his contemporaries and he used smooth, flowing lines and highly original glazes and had an Art Deco style. Royal Hickman worked for Haeger Potteries from 1938 to 1944 and again from the 1950s. He died in 1969.
The pair of Hickman pottery swans have a graceful bending of their necks that then curve onto their chests. Swans are circa 1940s-1950s.
Marked on the bottom 285 Royal Haeger by Royal Hickman USA.
