Vintage Banded Agate navette Victorian ring with a unique band. The band has a forked shoulder and a plain band in the back. The forked shoulder means it has a "V" shape to it where it meets the bezel set banded agate stone in two places. The ends of the "V" come together to form the back band. The ring is unmarked but has been tested - it is 10K gold plated. This Navette type of ring was popular in the early 1930s.
The navette ring is a very old design, and was trendy during the Victorian era. Navette means "little ship" as the stone is shaped like a little ship and is elongated and pointed at the ends. Victorian Navette rings were usually large, bold and colorful - they were truly statement rings. Women liked them as the shape elongated the finger when worn.
This Victorian piece features a banded agate cabochon that has a very light honey brown at one end that graduates to a darker amber brown and then to a very dark chocolate brown at the opposite end.
