Tall and sleek, this black cat chalk ware statue is gorgeous and very vintage. She looks like she is basking in the sun with her eyes closed.
This statue is signed with a copyright sign as well as the words ALEXANDER BACKER CO. INC on the back - see photo. Original sticker is still intact on the felt bottom. It reads: ABCO Hand Painted Made in the USA Alexander Backer Co. NY Copyright.
The Alexander Backer Company was in New York and was known for the manufacture of chalkware figures and busts in the period between the 1950's - 1960's.
Pair of vintage black cat statues. These wooden cats are painted black and ready to pounce! They are very retro and very kitsch! The front of each cat is painted black but the backs are unpainted.
They would look great on a mantle or shelf. Could even be used for some Halloween decor!
Measurements:
13 3/4'' tall, 4'' wide (at widest) by 6'' wide.
Condition: In very good vintage condition. Some light wear to the paint here or there (see close up photos for details) - mostly on the very bottom. Otherwise in very good vintage condition. It looks like the ears may have been repainted at some point but that is only noticeable upon very detailed inspection. See close up photos for details.
