Adorable antique porcelain bisque "piano baby" who is holding a cup - see NOTE below about Piano Babies.
This cute baby is a larger sized piano baby. She has a beautiful face and is dressed in a yellow dress with pink and white ruffled trim and two blue ribbons, one on each shoulder. The light bisque porcelain is quite fine and has a very smooth matte type of finish. This vintage bisque baby figurine is hand painted and has an expressive little face - the detail around the eyes is especially fine and has a pink cast to the skin in various places. Hair is a light brown color and the eyes are blue.
Approx. measurements - 12 1/2" in height.
This baby figurine is most likely German and from the late 1800s or early 1900s.
In nice vintage/antique condition with no chips or cracks. Light wear to the hand painting in various places as one would expect an item that is approx. 100 years old.
NOTE:
Piano Baby is a collector's term. About 1880, the well-decorated home had a shawl on the piano. Bisque figures of babies were designed to help hold the shawl in place. They range in size from 6 to 18 inches. Most of the figures were made in Germany. Most of the piano babies date from the early twentieth century.
