Vintage Set of 5 Roly Poly Glasses - Mad Men Thin Silver Rim Drinking Glasses - 4 Low Ball - Dorothy Thorpe Style - Mid century Modern

Sorry, this item has sold.

Awesome set of 5 vintage Roly Poly silver rimmed drinking glasses from the 1960s. Gorgeous rounded shape with heavy/thick glass bottom. They have a nice heft when held.

Size: They hold approx. 4 oz. comfortably and measure 2 1/4" high and the opening at the top is 2 1/2" in diameter. Silver rim is 1/8'' or between 1/8''-1/16'' (depending on the glass - see note in condition below and photos above).

Condition: Excellent vintage condition - the bold silver rims are in fab shape with no wear to be seen - look like they were never used. This is a really nice set with no chips, cracks, or other structural damage. Great retro glasses. Please note that the bands on 3 of the classes are just a little bit thinner than the bands on the other two. See close up photos for details.

Unmarked and similar in style to the barware seen on Mad Men.

What are roly poly glasses?
True to their name, you can set the glasses down on their side and they roll back to an upright position.

Why mention of Mad Men?
The main character of AMC’s “Mad Men” drinks from sterling-silver banded glassware that he keeps inside his Manhattan Avenue office.

Who was Dorothy Thorpe?
The roly-poly crystal glasses Draper sips from were designed by Dorothy Carpenter Thorpe (1904-1989), a Los Angeles-based artist. Thorpe designed other sterling-edged entertaining ware such as cocktail pitchers and cheese domes. While I don't believe these are Dorothy Thorpe glasses, they are similar in style.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
