A gorgeous Dorothy Thorpe flared glass salad bowl. These silver banded glasses have a "V" shaped bowl and a thick silver/platinum rim. Perfect for a salad or serving anything in style. The bowl features the wide silver band at the top made so popular by the Mad Men TV series. An amazing and beautiful survivor from the mid century era.
Dorothy Thorpe was an American designer who created beautiful glassware and ceramic pieces out of her Los Angeles studio in the mid century. Her pieces with the wide silver overlay on glass were very popular in the mid century and were once again getting kudos after the characters in the TV series "Mad Men" used them on the show.
Measures 10 1/8" in diameter.
In great vintage condition with no chips or cracks - looks great. Silver (or platinum) has some light patina - could be further polished if so desired, and has light wear to the silver/platinum band commensurate with mid century age - see close up photos for details.
This wonderful mid century serving piece would be amazing for a Christmas or New Year's eve gathering.
