Vintage Chalkware Saint Lucy Statue - 20" Tall St. Lucy w/ Eyes Martyr - Large Chalkware Statue Circa 1940s Catholic Religious Large Statue
A classic statue of St. Lucy, a Christian martyr that is chalkware and quite large. This saint, Lucy, is the patron saint of the blind. She is often seen with the emblem of eyes on a cup or plate as she has in this statue. She often holds a palm branch, which is a symbol of victory over evil as she does in this statue.
This tall statue stands on a green base. Lucy wears a white gown with a dark red robe around it. The gown has some gold trim and is held together by a belt around her waist. She has quite a lovely face and her eyes are expressive. She holds a oval plate with two other eyes as one story about Saint Lucy says that she lost her eyes and the were miraculously restored.
This statue is unmarked but I believe is its from the 1940 to 1960s era. The bottom shows its age - see photo. Age and slight chipping of paint make this a wonderful shabby chic or cottage chic decor item.
The statue stands approx. 20" inches tall. The sides of the base measure 4".
This statue is hefty weighing in at 6 3/4 lbs. for packaging for shipment.
All facial features, fingers and toes are intact and there are no cracks in the statue itself. There are many spots that have wear and chipping consistent with vintage condition all over - see photos and closeups for detail.
