Description: Beautiful set of vintage amber/yellow colored lidded heavy handmade glass canisters or jars that I believe were made by are L.E. Smith and are circa mid century. (See NOTE below for more about L.E. Smith Glass Co.) There are two jars - both are the same medium sized jar. They are made from very thick ground glass and are quite heavy.
The two jars have oval designs with six panels going around the sides each jar. The lids have a rounded top at the very top. There are six oval shapes around each of the lids.
There are bubbles in the glass in each of these canisters that are there from production.
Size: Each measures approx. 7 3/4" tall (with lid), approx. 6'' without lid and approx. 5" in diameter. The two jars are quite heavy weighing over 4 lbs before packing and shipping
Condition: In nice vintage condition. There are no cracks in the glass on either the canisters or the lids. However, the inside of the lids and rims have some light chipping (flea bites) from wear that does not show when they are in place - see photos. There are some bubbles that occurred throughout the glass naturally in production as well as one area on the top of the one jar that looks like a crack at first but it's a mark that looks like a small straight line that occurred in production. It's approx. 1/4'' long and can be seen (if you look very closely) at the last photo above.
NOTE:
Smith Glass has been crafting handmade American-pressed glass since 1907. Known for creating the first headlight lens for the Model T Ford, and the original glass mixing bowl, Smith Glass company’s high-quality pieces play an important role in the tabletop, giftware, and lighting industries. Like all the other glass companies of the time, L.E. Smith began producing colored glass in the mid 1920’s. Pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt were being made as early as 1926.
