What is a salt box? These hanging salt boxes used in kitchens throughout northern Europe and colonial America. They hung on the wall in close proximity to the cooking ares. Everyday salt boxes and salt itself were a very important part of life for settlers in North America. These boxes were used to keep the salt dry and handy when it was needed for cooking or for preserving food.

There are no chips or cracks on the salt box - looks very nice. Some crazing, slight wear and discoloration on the inside commensurate with antique age. See photos for detail.
