Vintage Basset Hound Dog Axelrod Bank Mid Century Kitsch Advertising Coin Bank - Sad Eyed Dog - Flying A Gasoline Ad Giveaway 1950s Plastic

$23.40

Sorry, this item has sold.

Adorable and large bank that is a rather sad eyed Basset Hound. This mid century bank was used by the Flying A gas company as a promotional giveaway. The theme for the advertising was not to worry as Flying A will take care of your automotive needs. The worried looking hound dog was to remind people not to worry.

This fellow looks like he has weathered a lot of storms and has the wear, dings and chipped paint to show it - see photos for detail. Wonderfully shabby chic decor item with a whole lotta kitsch from yesteryear. Missing the rubber stopper for the bank.

Measures about 15" long, 9" high and 5" deep.

NOTE:
One of the major gasoline brands named Flying A used Axelrod the dog as an advertising character for their Flying A Service Stations in the 1960s. These plastic banks featuring Axelrod the worried looking Basset Hound were used as a giveaway item to promote Flying A service stations.

Flying A television commercials with Axelrod were used during broadcasts of the New York Yankees baseball games on the east coast, and on the west coast during football and basketball games. He also appeared in print ads in the Saturday Evening Post.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
