A pair of matching oval canisters made by the SEIEI & CO n Japan. This company was in business before WWII and it's hallmark is a bird within a circle and the words HAND PAINTED MADE IN JAPAN around this mark. Each of the canisters has this hallmark on the bottom.
This vintage set of 2 canisters that are different in size features an off white/ivory background and orange, blue, yellow and green hand painted flowers and a green stipe in the center section. The bottom section is a solid ivory color and is ribbed. The knobs on the tops of the lids are painted a green pinwheel design giving them a cheerful look. The smaller container fits inside the larger one.
Measurements:
Large canister - 8" x 5 3/4" and is 4" high without the lid on .
Smaller canister - 6 7/8" x 4 7/8" and is 2 7/8" high without the lid on.
In nice vintage condition with wear and crazing. Some discoloration on the bottoms and inside of the containers and the lids - see last photo. Price reflects these conditions.
