Sorry, this item has sold.

Beautiful amethyst flask by Clevenger Bros. Glassworks of New Jersey that features a cluster of grapes on one side, an eagle on the other and decorative ribbing between the sides. This bottle is a molded reproduction (made circa 1960s) of Coffin and Hay’s Eagle and Grape flask.

The words are embossed on the side the grapes: CLEVENGER BROS GLASSWORKS CLAYTON NJ. There is a pontil on the bottom but no other markings on the bottom. This bottle appears in a catalog that Clevenger Bros. had in 1939 that indicates that they were using amethyst colored glass in their mold blown glass. With the embossed name, I believe this dates the bottle in the 1960s time period.

Measures about 7" tall. Base is approx. 2" x 3 1/2" oval.

In very good vintage condition with no cracks or chips.

NOTE:
Clevenger Glassworks of New Jersey, was a company run by the Clevenger family. During their ownership (1930-1966), the glassworkers of the Clevenger Brothers Glass Company produced free-blown and mold-blown glassware of such quality as to be virtually indistinguishable from antique glass. After 1966, Clevenger Bros. Glassworks continued to produce hand blow glass but the majority of the glass now blown became mold blown, this means that glass is blown into a mold to give it a specific form.

Also after 1966, products begin to be marked with the initials CB or Clevenger Brothers, Clayton, NJ embossed in the glass. Prior to 1966 rarely were pieces made with any identification marks on them. The Ritter-Carlton/Clevenger Brothers' catalog from 1939 advertised glass available in "six original colors." These colors were amber, amethyst, dark green, colonial blue, light green (also referred to as Jersey green) and light blue.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
