This is a set of 4 decorative vintage clear with red flash glass luncheon plates.
What is flash? Flashed glass is a type of glass created by coating a colorless glass with one or more thin layers of colored glass.
The sides of the plates have a red band of flash all around the other edge. There is a band with thumbprint impressions next to this red flash band. The very centers are clear glass with no pattern.
These are hefty for their size and feel nice in the hand. Look like they could be either US Glass, Colony, or Tiffin-Franciscan Glass Co. (All three made a Kings Crown pattern.)
The US Glass Company made their version circa 1914. The Tiffin-Franciscan Company made their Kings Crown pattern from 1958 to 1962. The Colony Company made their King's Crown from 1953 - 1967.
They are in nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. The four have some wear to the red flash here and there commensurate with vintage age. See photo closeup for detail. Price reflects condition. Even so, a great set of retro luncheon plates.
NOTE: These are the larger of the two plates pictured side by side in the photo of the large and small King’s Crown plates in our shop.
These glass luncheon plates are on the hefty side weighing in at about 1 lb. each before shipment.
Measurements:
8” in diameter
NOTE: The last photo shows the size of these glass plates compared to the larger sized salad plates that are also listed in our Etsy shop. These are the size shown on the left - the larger size.
A pretty red on clear background and a unique set of four luncheon plates!
