Get a fab punch bowl set with 12 vintage Roly Poly silver rimmed drinking glasses, the silver rimmed punch bowl, round chrome tray, and the chrome punch serving ladle from the 1960s. This set features clear glass pieces with a wide silver band at the top of the glasses and around the punch bowl.
The glasses hold approx. 5 oz. to the brim (4 oz. comfortably) and measure about 2 1/4" high and the opening at the top is 2 1/2" in diameter. The silver rim is approx. 1'' wide.
The set is quite heavy and the bowl is the most of the weight as it is a very substantial piece of glass. The punch bowl is 7" high and 11" across. The silver band at the top is 2" wide - it is bold. The large round chrome tray has an indentation in the center for the punch bowl to fit into. The chrome punch serving ladle is also included in this set.
Overall condition - the bold silver rims on all of these glasses and the bowl are in great shape. This is a really nice set with all in nice vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or other structural damage. Most glass have light wear to the silver rims - two have more wear than the rest but still look quite nice. See photos for details.
Unmarked and similar in style to the barware seen on Mad Men, though I don't believe these are the authentic Dorothy Thorpe.
What are roly poly glasses?
True to their name, you can set the glasses down on their side and they roll back to an upright position. See the video for a look at this.
Why mention of Mad Men?
The main character, Don Draper, of AMC’s series “Mad Men” drinks from silver banded glassware that he keeps inside his Manhattan Avenue office.
Who was Dorothy Thorpe?
The roly-poly crystal glasses Don Draper sips from were designed by Dorothy Carpenter Thorpe (1904-1989), a Los Angeles-based artist. Thorpe designed other sterling-edged entertaining ware such as cocktail pitchers and cheese domes.
