A covered heavy clear glass square shaped lidded pedestal dish with a lovely band of tiny diamond cut designs on the bottom rim of the top section and on the bottom of the square base. At the four corners of the top section, there is a flower shaped rounded piece that covers all of the corners. This rounded flower shape also covers the four corners on the square base as well.
The lid is square and has a small tiered area on the very top that has a large round ball knob in the center.
The glass pedestal jar and lid is quite heavy and most likely hand blown as the round knob on the lid is slightly off kilter. The stem is four sided and is hollow. I would also guess that this is Early American Pressed Glass - EAPG. Where the top section connects to the stem, the short section is round, but the remainder of the pedestal stem is four sided or square.
The striking compote or lidded glass piece measures about 10" high with the lid on. It is about 7" high without the lid. The top opening is 5 1/4" across. The sides of the square base are approximately 4" long.
This is rather hefty piece weighing in at over 4 lbs. before packaging for shipment.
It is in fair to nice vintage condition. There are some chips and a tiny crack on the inner portion of the top of the lid. The inner section of the bowl section has some irregularities but they appear to be there from production. See photos for detail. Item's price reflects these conditions.
Would make an nice storage jar or a display jar for your retro home. Still quite a striking piece!
