Antique hand hammered cake plate or short pedestal serving tray that is made of silver plate with hammered designs on the top, stem, and the base that is circa early 1900s in age. It is hallmarked on the bottom for the Derby Silver Company.
The design is quite simple and rather minimalist - it is a simple round flat top with hammered finish and a thin plain rim that is about 1/3" wide all around the top edge. The stem is hammered and has a tiered base that is also hammered. The underside is also hammered so this piece looks wonderful from all angles!
This silver plate serving piece is circa early 1900s. Silver companies created this type of more affordable piece in silver plate which was more affordable than silver.
The bottom has the hallmark:
DERBY S.P.CO. / INTERNATIONAL S. CO. / 1271 / EPNS [Gothic letters in shields] / W.M. MOUNTS / HAND BEATEN
This hallmark is for the Derby Silver Company of Birmingham, Connecticut that was in business in the late 1800s.
Measures approx. 4 1/2" high. The top has a 10" diameter. The base has a 4" diameter.
In nice antique condition with lots of patina all over and some scratching on the silver plate finish on the top - a perfect shabby or cottage chic decor item! See photos for detail.
