What is Slag Glass?
The pressed glass pieces know as "slag glass" were first made in the 1890s, using the glass-like by-product of iron known as slag. These items were brown in color with swirls of white or cream within the glass. Other types of metal ores produce different colors of slag when they are refined. This piece is typical of the first types of slag glass produced. This vase is made by the Akro Agate Company. They were best known for making marbles. They began marble production late in 1914, and were made in many colors after that.
Measures 5 1/2" x 2 7/8" and is 2 1/4" high.
Bottom marking is from the Akro Agate Company - there is a a raised hallmark on the bottom as well as the number 657.
In nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Just a cute little piece of yesteryear in orange and white swirls!
