Vintage Gibsons Staffordshire, England off-white and gold teapot with the design of purple violets. One side has the violets in a tan Victorian style basket and the other side has a cluster of violets. All around the top edge, on the handle and on the spout are decorative "S" shapes in gold. There are a few loose violets on either side of the brown basket and around the violet cluster on the other side.
The knob on the lid, the spout and handle have gold accent trim and some fancy shapes that are in good shape for this circa early mid century teapot. The lid also features a violet flower on either side of the knob. The handle, the spout, the top opening and the knob on the lid have thin gold lines on them. The lines on the knob are in a sunburst design. All around the top edge, on the handle and on the spout are decorative "S" shapes in gold.
All around the base of this retro teapot is a bold gold band that is about 1/4" wide.
Measures 4 3/5” high and is about 10” wide from spout to handle.
The bottom is embossed Gibsons Staffordshire England and is hand marked 121567 A in gold.
The teapot comes in nice vintage condition without any chips or cracks. There is lots of crazing all over, both inside and outside this vintage teapot. Condition is consistent with age of this item. The gold accent trim is in very nice shape overall - see photos for detail.
NOTE:
Gibsons was founded in 1875 by Samuel Gibson in Staffordhire, England. Gibsons earthenware teapots were produced until 1965 when the factory was relocated from Burslem to Shelton.
