This antique semi-porcelain pitcher made nearly 100 years ago by the Wood & Sons Co. of England is a white background color with a blue accent color. There were some gold painted designs on the top edge of the pitcher opening that are just about worn away through time. They appear to be originally on the rim - but that is quite faded now.
There are embossed "V" shaped designs with curled accents on them all around the top Under the spout there are also embossed curls. The handle is blue and has a bit of a upward tab on the top with some lightly embossed designs on the edges. The base has a scalloped shape with the same lightly embossed accents on the blue color.
The hallmark is clearly seen in the bottom that says ROYAL SEMI PORCELAIN WOOD & SONS ENGLAND . See NOTE below about this notable English Pottery Company.
A wonderful antique shabby chic decor item for bathroom, bedroom or kitchen decor.
This pitcher is 11" high and about 9" wide from the end of the handle to the tip of the spout. The diameter at the widest part of the pitcher alone is about 7". The diameter of the base is 4 1/2". This larger sized bath pitcher weighs about 4 1/2 lbs. before packaging for shipment - it is on the hefty side.
The backstamp on this piece dates it to 1907.
NOTE:
The Company began producing pottery in the early 1900s in England. They were a manufacturer of earthenware at the Trent, New Wharf and Stanley Potteries, Burslem. The Wood & Sons business was established in 1865 by Absalom Wood and his son T. F. Wood. The business name was first Wood & Son, then became Wood & Sons (from c.1907) and was incorporated as Wood & Sons Ltd, in 1910.
This pitcher is in nice antique condition with no chips or cracks. There is some wear, fading of the gold accent paint, discoloration on the underside commensurate with antique age. See photos for detail. All in all, it is in amazing condition for a piece that is about 115 years old.
