Set of 4 Tall Roly Poly Mad Men Silver Rim Drinking Glasses - Vintage Tall Large Dorothy Thorpe Style - Midcentury Modern - Rocks / Juice

Sorry, this item has sold.

Get a fab set of 4 vintage tall and large sized silver rimmed drinking glasses from the 1960s. Note these are a little taller in size than the usual "roly poly" style. They hold approx 14 oz. to the brim (10-12 oz. comfortably) and measure 4 1/4" high and the opening at the top is 3" in diameter. The silver rim is approx. 3/8"wide.

The bold silver rims on all of these glasses are in nice condition. When held to the light, the wear to the silver can be seen. There are no chips, cracks, or other structural damage.

Unmarked and similar in style to the barware seen on Mad Men, though I don't believe these are the authentic Dorothy Thorpe.

What are roly poly glasses?
True to their name, you can set the glasses down on their side and they roll back to an upright position.

Why mention of Mad Men?
The main character of AMC’s “Mad Men” drinks from sterling-silver banded glassware that he keeps inside his Manhattan Avenue office.

Who was Dorothy Thorpe?
The roly-poly crystal glasses Draper sips from were designed by Dorothy Carpenter Thorpe (1904-1989), a Los Angeles-based artist. Thorpe designed other sterling-edged entertaining ware such as cocktail pitchers and cheese domes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do we answer questions about the value or “worth” of items?

No, we are not comfortable providing pricing or answering questions about the value or worth of vintage or antique items. We believe they are worth what someone will pay for them. Therefore, there is no way to assign something a set monetary value - in our opinion. We suggest doing an online search to find similar items and take it from there.
